Since our start in Spring 2021, QNS Collaborative has partnered with more than 300 makers, artists, and curators throughout Queens. Some of them are veterans and others are just beginning to sell their work for the very first time. But each and every member of our creative community deserves a shoutout. FAQ

Who is eligible to become a vendor with QNS Collaborative?

Outside of details regarding the eligible items you can sell with QNS Collaborative, the only requirement for vendors is that you be a resident of New York. QNS Collaborative welcomes creatives of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of experience to our spaces.

What items can I sell with QNS Collaborative?

We aspire to use QNS Collaborative as a platform to support small-scale artists, craftspeople, and curators. In order to be considered for participation, the vendor's wares must be classified as one or more of the following:

Original/Handmade – conceived, designed, and executed in New York by the exhibiting participant (an NYC resident) through any means. All vendors who fall under this category must provide details to QNSC regarding any pre or post-production partners (incl. printers, manufacturers, material sourcing) at the time of application.
Vintage - Items that are at least 20 years old, even if mass produced, and are no longer able to be purchased in the same form on the mass market.
Upcycled/Repurposed - composed of whole and/or parts of goods that served a previous function and have now been updated to take a new form. All items falling under this category must be conceived, designed, and executed in New York as noted in the above Original/Handmade category.

The following items are NOT considered eligible to sell with QNS Collaborative:

Non-vintage items that are not meaningfully changed in assembly, formula, function, or appearance.
Copyright and/or trademark images, names and products without written permission “To Sell” by holder of copyright or trademark. Examples are ‘Disney’, ‘Warner Bros’, ‘Precious Moments’, professional and college sports teams, etc.

How much does it cost to become a vendor?

It depends! QNS Collaborative has used multiple models for costs and continues to work with the community to make pricing structures and membership fees more equitable for all. We have used a few different pricing structures throughout the years:

From October - December 2021, all membership fees were based on square footage allotted per member in our storefront. Each member was given their own fixture according to their needs (table, shelf, rack, or gallery space). Fees during this time ranged from $245 to $290 monthly.
In 2022, we adjusted our fees to suit a mixed-merchandising model where all product was arranged within the store as it would be in traditional retail. Each member is guaranteed approximately 3 square feet of selling space spread out throughout the store. All fees under this model are an even $100 monthly.
Our Maker Markets on the 31st Ave Open Street are run in partnership with Astoria Food Pantry and all proceeds go toward their continued programming. Current fees for 2023 are $15 for all applicants and $50 suggested donation for each market.

Whatever our model, we strive to be transparent with our fee structures and take the input of our community members into consideration.

Do I need to be physically present to sell my work?

In our storefront, vendors did NOT need to be present for their work to be on display. We saw this as part of the appeal and a great way for busy creatives to show their work to the community without spending long hours behind a table selling their product.

For pop-up markets outside of our storefront and in the broader community, we use a couple different models:

When QNS Collaborative secures a space at a market not run by our team, we aim to work those spaces by committee. Those participating are asked to come by for a couple hours or more at their convenience to help run the booth, but the broader team of vendors can help fill in throughout the day.
When we organize our own markets (such as the market on 31st Ave Open Street), they're run much like a traditional maker market and we ask that all participating vendors who are set up at their own tables to be present to sell their work.

Do you offer any discounted memberships or other monetary aid?

As part of our commitment to Diversity & Inclusion, QNSC works to identify members of the creative community in need and offer them discounted or complimentary participation. This is currently done on a case-by-case basis.

Where can I shop the QNS Collaborative vendors?

You can find us (and our vendors) around town hosting regular markets, workshops, and other community-focused programming with our local partners. While we're on the road, make sure to keep an eye on our Instagram for the latest news on where we are headed.

What if I'm not an artist or maker? Can I still join the QNSC community?

Of course! Our markets are only one facet of the broader efforts of QNS Collaborative and making a community-led project happen takes all kinds. If art isn't your thing, you can engage with things like workshops and social events or get involved in behind-the-scenes efforts like outreach, local partnerships, programming, finance, marketing & more.
